The Story
The last timber-and-iron Chinese temple in Australia, built in 1903 by Chinese residents working at nearby Cedar Camp, on the edge of Atherton in the Tablelands. Most fittings, including the carvings, bell and metal vessels, were made in China; the funders' names are recorded on inscriptions inside. Volunteers guide visitors through the temple and museum, and a gift shop stocks tea sets, fans and lanterns.
