Brewarrina Aboriginal Fish Traps

Brewarrina, NSW
The Story

Baiame's Ngunnhu sit in the Barwon/Darling River at Brewarrina, a stone weir system believed to be among the oldest human constructions on earth, estimated by archaeologists at over 40,000 years old and National Heritage listed. The traps drew many Aboriginal nations as an inter-tribal meeting place, and Aboriginal people with connections to the area still use them to fish traditionally today.
