The Story
Housed in the 1857 building that began as the Beechworth Athenaeum, this museum holds more than 30,000 items, many over 150 years old. Among them are Robert O'Hara Burke's bible, inscribed revolver and saddlebags from the Burke and Wills expedition, alongside 19th-century taxidermy, Gold Rush artefacts and the 'Street of Shops', a recreation of gold-era Beechworth. The 'People of Beechworth' exhibition traces the town's community life. Open daily.
