Cairns Historical Society Museum

Founded in 1958, the Cairns Historical Society holds more than 100,000 items — documents, photographs, maps, oral histories — spanning Cardwell to the Torres Strait and west to Normanton. The photographic collection alone has been assessed as nationally significant. For anyone trying to understand the layered, multicultural history of Far North Queensland, this is the serious starting point.
