Carisbrook House
Sydney, NSW
The Story
Built in the 1880s from locally quarried sandstone, this house survives from a time when the land around the Lane Cove River sat well beyond Sydney Town. It is curated by the Lane Cove Historical Society, formed in 1962 to research the history and heritage of the North Shore and to collect artefacts and memorabilia of life in Lane Cove, from the Indigenous owners of the land through the two centuries that followed. The house and its gardens open to visitors on the third weekend of every month except December, from 10am to 4pm.
