Cascade Female Factory

From 1828 to 1856, this South Hobart site held thousands of women transported to Van Diemen's Land. The partial ruins are now managed under Australia's Convict Sites World Heritage listing — one of eleven properties inscribed in 2010. Sparse and unmediated, what remains makes the arithmetic of confinement easy to grasp.
