Cooktown Museum & James Cook Historical Museum

Set in a restored nineteenth-century Sisters of Mercy convent, this Cooktown collection was formerly the James Cook Museum and now traces the region's layered histories: Guugu Yimithiir culture, early encounters with Lt. James Cook, and one of Australia's first recorded acts of reconciliation. Displays cover the Gold Rush, Chinese migration and convent school life from 1888 to the 1940s, alongside artefacts from HMB Endeavour. The verandah looks over the Endeavour River toward Cape York.
