Fire Services Museum

The volunteers who show you around are mostly retired firefighters, which is the point: the stories come with the appliances. Ten thousand items fill the former Metropolitan Fire Brigade headquarters on Gisborne Street, including vintage engines, eighteenth-century uniforms, helmets, badges and models. A separate vehicle restoration workshop at Newport opens by arrangement. Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
