The Story

This museum on Homer Street tells the history of a district that was, in the mid-19th century, the only Murrumbidgee River crossing point for travellers heading through southeast Australia. Its collection holds artefacts and stories tied to the town's heritage, including the 1852 flood, the deadliest in Australia's recorded history. The museum is currently closed for an accessibility project, with reopening planned for 2026.
