The Story
The Islamic Museum of Australia sits on Anderson Road in Thornbury, in Melbourne's north. It holds permanent galleries, among them the Australian Muslim History Gallery, alongside changing exhibitions: recent shows have included "A Common Word" by Leslie Eastman, which works through light, video and drawing, and "Sakinah", drawn from the domes of Istanbul. The museum runs an education program with school tours and incursions, and its Boundless Plains project, showcasing Australian Muslim stories, has travelled to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. A café, gift shop and venue hire round out the site, which marked ten years in 2024.
