Patrick Joseph Mulligan drove bullock wagons from age 12 and died leaving a farming empire near Penola. His descendants now run a distillery on family land purchased in 1937, 15 kilometres west of town, making cane spirit and rum. The cellar door at St Marys Vineyard opens daily, except Christmas Day and Good Friday.
