Kalgoorlie, WA
The Story
Set on Hannan Street in Kalgoorlie, this state museum traces the Eastern Goldfields and the town's mining heritage at the edge of the Nullarbor Plain. It holds the largest display of Western Australia's gold bars and nuggets, and shows how prospectors searched for the metal and how mining families lived through the early 1900s. A lift reaches a headframe viewing platform, and admission is free, daily from 10am to 3pm.
