National Gallery of Victoria

Founded in 1861, the NGV holds more than 76,000 works across two buildings on Southbank — NGV International and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. The permanent collection, spanning ancient to contemporary, is free. A third building, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, is incoming. Oil and gold on spruce panel sits alongside fashion, architecture and sound. Not bad for a Tuesday afternoon.
