New England Regional Art Museum
Armidale, NSW
The Story
Three collections, 5,000-plus works, one purpose-built building on Kentucky Street: NERAM opened in 1983 to house Howard Hinton's donation to Armidale Teachers College — 1,300 works given between 1929 and 1948. Streeton, Roberts, Preston, Whiteley and Tuckson all feature. The Chandler Coventry holdings extend the reach. For Australian art history outside the capitals, nothing in regional NSW comes close.
