The Story
When Victoria began closing its psychiatric hospitals in the 1980s, Eric Cunningham Dax — the psychiatrist who had introduced art therapy to them in the 1950s — salvaged around 8,000 works headed for destruction. That rescue became a collection of more than 16,000, one of four of its kind in the world. Two galleries draw on it and show living artists with lived experience of mental health issues. Wednesday to Friday in the Kenneth Myer Building, Parkville.
