The Wall in the Wilderness
The Story
Greg Duncan began carving on 1 March 2005 and did not stop for two decades. The result is a hundred metres of Huon pine relief, three metres high, in a purpose-built gallery on the Lyell Highway at Derwent Bridge: Central Highlands settlers, timber workers, horses and thylacines cut into panels that each took a month. Duncan has handed the chisels to his son Daniel. Entry is booked, and the doors close June to August.
