Four decades on Flinders Street, and Umbrella remains the rare regional arts organisation that punches at national scale. Based on Wulgurukaba Country in Townsville's CBD, it runs exhibitions, residencies, studio access and the biannual PUNQ festival — a sustained argument that experimental contemporary practice doesn't require a southern postcode.
