The Story
Werribee Park Mansion is a grand 60-room Italianate estate built between 1874 and 1877 by Scottish pastoralists Thomas and Andrew Chirnside from their wool fortune. Victoria's only major freestone mansion features ornamental carvings, heritage gardens designed by Royal Botanic Gardens curator William Guilfoyle, a heritage orchard dating to the 1870s, and the Victoria State Rose Garden, all set within a sweeping parkland 35 kilometres west of Melbourne.
